SoMMA FAQ

Frequently Asked
Questions about SoMMA

1. What instruments is it for?
SoMMA is for band instrumentalists, in other words most brass, woodwinds, and percussion. It is required that
applicants have experience on at least one of these.

2. How much does it cost?
SoMMA costs $565 for the resident
Program (dorm included). If you wish to skip staying in the dorm and drive in every morning, go with the Commuter Program, which costs $475.

3. Do I have to live in Maine to go?
No. You can live anywhere and go to SoMMA.

4. When is it too late to sign up?
It would be advisable to send in your registration forms before March or April, or else risk not being accepted. This is especially pertinent to certain
instruments with more people enrolling,
such as flutes.

5. Is there a lot of supervision?
Although there's a good amount of free time, attendance is taken several times throughout the day and there is good supervision at SoMMA.

6. Where's Gorham?
Gorham is located about 10 miles west of Portland, Maine. If you're coming up on 95, get off at exit 6 and turn left at the light; follow the road and turn left at the intersection where there's a Sam's club; take that road (114) all the way past the center of Gorham, and you'll see signs for USM.
